HBAW Registration is Now Open/Schedule of Events Online
Registration for Harvard Black Alumni Weekend (HBAW), Turning Excellence Into Action: Inspiring Change at Harvard and Beyond, is now open at http://post.harvard.edu/hbaw09/registration.html! A schedule of the weekend’s events is also posted on the HBAW website. Please also be on the lookout for the official invitation, which you will receive via email next Monday, July 20.
In addition to a range of engaging panels, such as Ethics in Healthcare: Facing Twenty-First Century Challenges, The Black Image: Fairness, and Accountability in the Digital Age, and Managing the Cycle: Empowering Your Career Though Times of Change, this year’s HBAW will also feature a reception and film festival highlighting the work of alumni artists, an opportunity to have dinner with students in the undergraduate House dining rooms, and a guided tour of the Sackler Museum’s African American art.
We are also delighted to announce that our Saturday evening gala keynote speaker will be James E. Johnson AB ’83, JD ’86, a white collar and corporate compliance litigator who served as Under Secretary of the Treasury during the Clinton Administration and who recently completed service as Chair of the New Jersey Advisory Committee on Police Standards. We will also pay special tribute to Alphonse “Buddy” Fletcher, Jr. AB ’87, one of our community’s most dedicated and accomplished alumni, at that event. It is a full and engaging schedule, but please rest assured there will be plenty of time for connecting and socializing with fellow alumni, students, faculty, staff, and administrators from the entire University.
In a show of support, we hope that you will consider making a gift to HBAW to help ensure this extraordinary tradition continues. Alldonations are 100%tax deductible and will be recognized in our annual newsletter, on our website, and in the HBAW program materials. Please note, alumni donations help to cover the break-even cost of the weekend and allow HBAS to offer reduced registration fees for recent graduates and alumni who are currently unemployed or work in the not-for-profit sector.
Again, you can make a donation to HBAS online by going to www.hbasonline.org and clicking on Giving to HBAS or by mailing a check made payable to the Harvard Black Alumni Society to Chris-Tia Donaldson, c/o Harvard Black Alumni Society, 933 West Van Buren #415, Chicago, IL 60607.
Finally, we would like to thank those of you who attended the HBAW Fundraiser BBQ held in Central Park this past Saturday, July 11. A special thanks to Tim Wilkins AB ’86, MBA ’91, JD ’93, Patrick Bradford AB ’86 and all of the other members of our hosting committee for organizing this event. Note, pictures from the BBQ will be available online in the Photo Gallery section of the HBAS website and on the HBAS Facebook page tomorrow.
For questions regarding HBAW, please contact Harvard’s Events Office at shelley_westover@harvard.edu or call 617-495-7507.
Sincerely,
Heather Johnston AB ’86, Co-Chair
